Overview

Rae-ann Smith is a writer, photographer, filmmaker and teacher born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. She has won photography awards in Jamaica and has published photographs in TRACK//FOUR Journal. She published articles in journals such as Anomaly and Interviewing the Caribbean, a book chapter, newspaper articles and was shortlisted for the Small Axe Literary Competition. Rae-ann graduated from the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus in Jamaica with a 1st Class Honours BA Mass Communication, completed a diploma in Documentary Filmmaking at La Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV), San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, and an MFA Film Production with Cinematography emphasis, at Chapman University in California, USA on a Fulbright Scholarship. Smith, also known as Rae-ann Renaud, has screened at film festivals in Trinidad and Tobago, the United States of America, Africa, India, and Indonesia. She has also served as a Programmer for the Regina International Film Festival and Awards in Canada and was selected for: the British Council working in partnership with the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival’s Making Development Work for Story Editors, Screenwriters and Producers, as well as the first cohort of The Film Lab an initiative of the British Council, JAMPRO and JAFTA. Presently, Rae-ann is a Lecturer and Programme Coordinator of the BFA Film Production at CARIMAC UWI. She is currently reading for an MPhil/PhD in Communication Studies at CARIMAC UWI, completing a practice-based research project that experiments with film narrative structure. Her interests include Narratology, Narrative Fiction and Non-Fiction Film Production, Practice Based Research in the Arts, Creative Writing, Photography and Visual Communication.
