To work towards a specialization in the several social work discipline at the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

To offer placements for students doing practicum in the ageing field

School of Continuing Studies
The school of Continuing Studies is already committed
To lifelong study
offer community based courses through continuing education centers.
Offer short courses significant for the teaching of Gerontology/geriatrics
Offer courses at various locations thereby enabling a larger number of persons

Distance Education

The centre will be involved in the development of courses to be offered through distance education
These courses will be offered in the areas of gerontology and geriatrics as well as for seniors themselves using the “third age” model

Research

Research activities determined by need collaborative links and available funding.
The research will include the documentation of the state of ageing related factors, successful ageing and model age related programme.
The research programmes will build on the already existing collaboration between the World Health Organisation, other international and local agencies.

Third Age University Courses

Another activity of the centre will be to train seniors using the international “Third Age” Model
This programme will offer retraining thus improving self –esteem and self-actualization purposes.

There is an increasing need for preretirement programmes for various companies and industries
