MPhil Computer Science

The MPhil in Computer Science is one of two research degrees offered by the Department of Computing. The MPhil degree designed to prepare students for doctoral research. Typical applicants will have undertaken a bachelors degree in Computer Science. Students will work on original research in any of the following areas culminating in a dissertation:

  • Amorphous Computing
  • Software Engineering
  • Virtual Reality

Programme Structure

Length of Programme: Minimum of two academic years.

Entry Requirements

At least an upper second class honours degree in Computer Science. 
NB: Acceptance is subject to the availability of a supervisor within the department.

All MPhil students are required to do the course COMP6010 (CS60R) - Research Methodologies in Computer Science (6 credits). This course aims to provide the incoming MPhil student in Computer Science with the basic training necessary to make a smooth transition to the point where he/she will be able to confidently start pursuing his/her research.
