A Balanced Approach to Literacy Development: Experiences from USAID Camp Summer Plus Workshop

We are pleased to present a workshop on the strategies and practices of Camp Summer Plus 2011. The main goal of the camp was to harness the possibilities of summer learning to raise the educational achievement levels of disadvantaged Grade 3 students from eight (8) schools in Region 1.The objectives of the workshop are to:• Present lessons learned from the Camp Summer Plus experience• Highlight notable strategies and practices of  Camp Summer Plus• Discuss the usefulness of implementing these strategies and practices in early grade classrooms.The workshop will be facilitated a Literacy Advisor from the Jamaica Basic Education Project and two of the Academic Leaders from the camp.Eleven primary schools have been selected to participate in the workshop and will have two (2) representatives: one teacher each from Grades 2 and 3.
