Depreciated depreciation methods? Alternatives to Sraffa’s take on fixed capital

The article presents alternatives to Sraffa's treatment of fixed capital. They are based on monetary capital, a new consistency criterion and the structure of the financial system. Different prices of productions and alterations of the Sraffa system are implied. Among the valid methods are the original proposals of Marx and Torrens, which were dismissed falsely and prematurely by Neo-Ricardian economists.

In many instances, the concessionary agreement utilises a BOOT agreement. Economics welcomes new Head

The Department of Economics thanks the outgoing Head of Department (HOD) Dr. Damien King for his many years of service within this capacity. We also welcome Professor David Tennant as the new HOD effective August 1, 2016.

 


New course in Environmental Economics

This course addresses issues by examining the underlying theories and the tools of environmental economics that can be used to effectively guide policymakers in dealing with environmental challenges. Environmental Economics ECON3034 is a three credit course offered in semester one apply!


BREXIT: Implications for the Caribbean

The Office of the Vice Chancellor in collaboration with the Department of Economics and the Caribbean Policy Research Institute hosted the symposium BREXIT: Implications for the Caribbean. Reggae Girl Scores Goal ... Sherona Forrester Is 2016 Rhodes Scholar

Reggae Girl Sherona Forrester is the 2016 Jamaican Rhodes Scholar. The 24-year-old Glenmuir High School past student has been a member of Jamaica's Senior Football team since 2014. She was also captain of the female team for the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Contingent for the UWI Games from 2013-15; captain of the UWI female basketball team, 2012-13; and captain of the UWI senior netball team, 2011-2012. UWI Economics Working Paper Series

The UWI Economics Working Paper Series showcases economic research by members of the University of the West Indies. It includes studies that are about to be published in economics journals or that have publishable quality. Our goal is to contribute to the visibility of UWI economics and UWI as an institution world wide and locally. Our studies are of interest for the academic and public/political communities as well as for the private sector. All UWI Economics Working Papers have to be approved through a majority vote by one editor and by three refrees in a one-side blind review process.
