Biomedical Engineering

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the analysis and design of analogue circuits and instruments. It continues on the basic concepts of operational amplifiers, diodes and transistor circuits that were explored at level 1. Topics to be covered include circuit application of solid state devices to the designs of various diode and transistor circuits. The differential amplifier and its use in the design of operational amplifiers and instruments are discussed. Students are also introduced to the functional operation of commonly used linear ICs along with the basic concepts of oscillations. This course also discusses the basic measurement process and the design and operation of the electronic circuit and systems that enable it. Analyses of the physics of the operation of sensors and their interfaces to electronic circuits will be studied. Examples of Industrial measurement systems will be discussed with particular attention to their design details. Students will be exposed to the real world instrumentation and measurement system during their industrial case study sessions. Read more
