Department of Basic Medical Sciences

The Department of Basic Medical Sciences, headed by Dr. Andrew Pearson, consists of sections of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Physical Therapy and Pharmacology. This department provides the foundation required for students reading for the MB,BS and Dentistry programmes. It also prepares students for nursing and physical therapy degrees. On its own it offers the Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences  (BBMed Sci) offering majors in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. In conjunction with the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, it offers majors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Graduate programmes at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels are offered in a variety of areas. Research includes nutrition, diabetes, cancer, and immunology, among others.
