HISTORY Archaeology

Each student will need 39 credits in History/Archaeology courses

LEVEL I -
Three courses as follows:
HIST1801      Introduction to Archaeology
HIST1703      Introduction to History

And One other Level 1 History course from the following:
HIST1304       Africa in World Civilization to 1800
HIST1408       States and Societies: Continuity and Change in early modern Europe
HIST1505       The Asian World Prior to 1600
HIST1601       Atlantic World, 1400-1600

LEVEL II -  Five courses as follows:
HIST2006        Conquest, Colonization and Resistance in the Caribbean, 1600  to the end of Slavery
HIST2007       Freedom, Decolonization and Independence in the Caribbean since 1804
HIST2801       Research Methods & Techniques in Archaeology
HIST2804       A Survey of World Prehistory
One other level 2 History Course

LEVEL III - Five Courses as follows:
HIST3801       Historical Archaeology
HIST3803       Archaeology of Africa

Two Level 3 Caribbean History Courses and One other level 3 History course

HISTORY/ARCHAEOLOGY SPECIAL



Admission to History/Archaeology Special is strictly by interview with the Head of Department.

Students are required to read at least twenty (20) 3 credit courses for a total of 60 credits in History/Archaeology and recommended Geography and Geology courses. A prerequisite for taking these courses is a pass in CXC Geography.

LEVEL I - Six Courses (18 credits) as follows:
HIST1304        Africa in World Civilisation to 1800
HIST1408        States and Societies: Continuity and Change in early modern Europe
HIST1505        The Asian World Prior to 1600
HIST1601        The Atlantic World 1400-1600
HIST1703        Introduction to History
HIST1801        Introduction to Archaeology

LEVEL II -

Seven Courses (21 credits), including:

HIST2801        Research Methods & Techniques in Archaeology
HIST2804        Survey of World Pre-history
HIST2006        Conquest, Colonization and Resistance in the Caribbean, 1600 to the end
of Slavery
HIST2007        Freedom, Decolonization and Independence in the Caribbean since 1804
At least one History course in a concentration
Any two History courses from outside a concentration

LEVEL III
Seven Courses (21 credits), including:

HIST3801        Historical Archaeology
HIST3803        Archaeology of Africa
TWO Level III Caribbean History Courses
TWO History courses in a concentration
ONE other history course from outside a concentration

Students are required to read at least thirteen (13) 3 credit courses for a total of 39 credits in History & Heritage.

LEVEL I
HIST1703:     Introduction to History
HIST1901:     Introduction to Heritage
Any one of the following:
HIST1304:     Africa in World Civilization to 1800
HIST1405:     Economy and Society in Early Modern Europe
HIST1505:     The Asian World Prior to 1600
HIST1601:     The Atlantic world 1400-1600
