The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) is that arm of the University of the West Indies that is charged with the responsibilities of advancing teaching and learning through the professional development of faculty. The unit is a visible reminder that the university values teaching. The IDU provides programmes that allow faculty to become more intentional about their professional practice and engage in critical conversations about their teaching. Its programme of professional development is geared at nuturing attitudes, skills, competencies and behaviours of faculty in pursuit of greater professionalism and enhanced effectiveness in responding to the needs of students.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Instructional Development Unit is committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning at the University of the West Indies. To this end, the Unit provides training for staff in the principles and practices of learner-centred teaching through a wide range of programmes, services and activities designed to facilitate effective student learning and the attainment of excellence.
