LAW BRANCH LIBRARY

Law Branch Library

The Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU) was established in January 2001 to coordinate all the instruction/teaching in the Library. Information Literacy (IL) competencies have the potential to assist individuals to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners. The Law Branch Library has tailored its IL programme since 2011 to cater to the information skills and needs of law students. Emphasis is placed on highlighting the various legal materials available in the library in all formats and how to locate and apply their use in legal research methods and writing. Law students are also introduced to the prescribed citation style, Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA). These competencies are based on legal research competencies required in British and Caribbean jurisprudence.

The Law Branch Library's Information Literacy programme empower students to:

•       Locate cases, laws, regulations and subsidiary legislation
•       Develop legal research skills
•       Improve the quality of academic achievement
•       Reference legal resources using the OSCOLA citation style and to avoid plagiarism
