Dr. Hopeton Dunn to Chair Session of UN’s Internet Governance Conference

Director of the Mona School of Business (MSB) Telecommunications Policy and Management Programme at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Dr. Hopeton Dunn, will be the moderator of a session of the 4th Global Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which will take place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, from November 15 to 18, 2009.

The Conference themed, ‘Internet Governance – Creating Opportunities for All’ will see deliberations on a wide range of issues including security, privacy, access and diversity. Dr. Dunn will chair the session relating to Internet access. Among topics to be covered in this session are Interconnection Costs; National and International Regulatory Issues; Regional Backbone and Infrastructure Issues; Internet Exchange Points (IXPs); Safety and Network Redundancy and Issues in Mobile Broadband Access.

The IGF, established by the United Nations Secretary-General in keeping with the mandate from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), is intended to maximize the opportunity for open and inclusive dialogue and exchange of ideas on the development and use of the Internet.

Following the IGF Conference, the MSB will host the 7th Caribbean Internet Forum (CIF) at the Knutsford Court Hotel from November 25 to 26, 2009. The Conference will be held under the theme, ‘Building the Caribbean Broadband Platform for Regional Development’ and will see participation from regional and local stakeholders in the Telecommunications and ICT industry.
