The Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, Sir George Alleyne, was re-appointed for a second seven-year term, with effect from October 1, 2010 by the institution’s highest governing body, the University Council.

The Council at its annual business meeting held for the first time at the Cave Hill Campus on April 16 approved, with acclamation, the Vice-Chancellor’s recommendation that Sir George continue as Chancellor of The University of the West Indies.

Sir George Alleyne, who succeeded Sir Shridath Ramphal as Chancellor in 2003, is the fifth Chancellor since the establishment of the institution in 1948.
