Three students of The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona will travel to the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, under a student exchange programme between the three universities. They are Aieka Smith, PhD candidate in the Department of Government, Faculty of Social Sciences, Mona, who will attend the University of Cape Town, Sandra Alvaranga, SALISES, Faculty of Social Sciences and Rachel Boxill, Department of Literatures in English, Faculty of Humanities & Education, who will both attend Brown University, Rhode Island.

Their visit is being facilitated under the Trilateral Reconnection Project (TRP) which is an agreement between the University of The West Indies, the University of Cape Town and Brown University, which calls for student and faculty exchanges and joint research projects between the three universities. The project was initiated by the Centre for Caribbean Thought at the University of the West Indies, Africana Studies department at Brown University and the Center for African Studies at the University of Cape Town. Funding has been provided through the Coca Cola Foundation to cover the cost of air travel and accommodation, and to provide a stipend for daily meals, ground transportation and other sundry expenses associated with doing research. In order to be eligible for selection, candidates must be enrolled at The University of the West Indies, Mona campus or the University of Cape Town and must be at the research stage of their Masters or PhD thesis. The programme is open to students from all faculties and departments. The proposed research

could fall in the areas of African Literature, Critical Issues in African and Pan African Studies, African Diaspora Thought, Medicine/medical health, Humanities and Social Sciences in Africa & the Diaspora or any other suitable topics.
