The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus will host the third Cross Campus Conference of the Faculties of Social Sciences on January 16-18, 2012 under the theme: The Strategic Plan and the Social Sciences: Making it better for 2012-2017. The conference starts at 8:30am or 9:00am each day with all plenary sessions slated for the Social Sciences Lecturer Theatre (SSLT).
 
A successful three days of deliberations in Disciplinary and Strategic Plan Theme Groups is anticipated with address from Professor E. Nigel Harris, Vice Chancellor; Professor Gordon Shirley, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal; Professor Andrew Downes, Pro-Vice Chancellor Planning and Development; and the Deans of the Faculties of Social Sciences. Participants will include delegations from Cave Hill, St. Augustine and Open Campuses and all academic and senior administrative staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mona.
 
In consideration of the outcomes of the last two conferences within the framework of the 2007-2012 Strategic Plan and the expectations of the current Strategic Plan 2012-2017, the Conference aims to:
 
• build awareness among staff in the FSS about the strategic planning process and to excite their participation in setting new objectives and targets that will guide institutional reform for the ensuing plan period
• assess the state of the social sciences through the lenses of pre-established theme and disciplinary groups since the last plan period through an examination of targets, outcomes and structures adopted to operationalise individual plans
• examine successful case studies of cross campus collaboration for identification of best/appropriate practices 
• develop and communicate across the FSS a work-plan for each new group that will guide implementation of activities for the next plan; identifies necessary resources and required changes in structures; and establishes accountability frameworks and reporting relationships
