The University of the West Indies, Mona is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Paul G. Simmonds as Executive Director of the newly created Mona School of Business and Management, (MSBM) with effect from September 1, 2012.
 
 
The Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) is the merger of the Mona School of Business (MSB) and the Department of Management Studies (DOMS) to form a single business school in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The new entity will benefit from the strong brand entity of the former MSB in the business community, as well as from DOMS’ reputation for innovative research and contribution to social and economic policy. The new MSBM will be formally launched on Monday, September 24, 2012.
 
 
Professor Simmonds holds the Bachelor of Science in Business Management from George Washington University, Washington DC, the MBA with concentration in Accounting/Finance from Drexel University, Philadelphia and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from Temple University, Philadelphia in the USA. 
 
 
Paul Simmonds is a management consultant and certified management accountant. He joins the staff of The UWI, Mona after serving most recently as AARP Virgin Islands State President.  He has served in several academic capacities during a 25-year academic career including Administrative Chair/Dean of the Business Division at the University of the Virgin Islands and Department Chairman and Associate Professor in the Business Administration Department of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.  He has also held academic appointments at Florida State University, Temple University, the University of Central Florida and the National University of Singapore. He has been associated with Mona School of Business at UWI since 1995 as an Overseas Lecturer in the EMBA, MBA and DBA programmes and as External Examiner.  His academic focus has been on internal strategic management and he has taught in areas such as strategic management/business policy, ethics, new venture finance as well as international management.
 
 
Professor Simmonds also brings to the position, extensive experience in the private sector, having served as Managing Director of TRW Turbine Overhaul Services Pte Ltd in the Republic of Singapore, a foreign TRW subsidiary manufacturing, re-manufacturing and repairing aircraft turbine components for worldwide airlines. He was also General Manager of TRW, Inc. Airfoil Overhaul SBU in Harrisburgh, Pennsylvania, responsible for the overall management and profitability of a 240 person strategic business unit, and earlier held a position as Division Accountant at Scott Paper Company in Philadelphia, PA. 
 
 
Paul Simmonds has published widely on topics related to strategy in several international journals such as Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of Managerial Issues, Academy of International Management Insights, Executive Management Today, Cross Cultural Management: an International Journal and the International Journal of Organizational Analysis.
 
 
He has served on several boards, and held positions in Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and in academic societies in such positions as Vice President, International Division, United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and as a Member of the Advisory Board of the Academy of International Business Insights.  He is a Member of the Academy of Management, the Strategic Management Society and the Institute of Management Accountants.  He is a 14-year veteran of the United States Air Force.
 
 
Professor Simmonds is currently a member of the Coastal Zone Management Committee of the US Virgin Islands.
