The Musson Group of Companies  and Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) have signed an agreement to launch a formal internship programme for MSBM’s students. One of the major goals of this internship programme is to provide current undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to develop and stimulate their interests and provide them with real-world business experiences.

Speaking at the signing ceremony today, Mrs Melanie Subratie, Vice Chairman of the Musson Group, said “We are excited about the partnership with the Mona School of Business and Management in this venture. We firmly believe that one of the best ways for young people to develop proper work ethics is to be exposed to the world of work from very early while they study”. The programme will therefore not only be skills based but will include “hands-on” exposure to how business is conducted in the real world,” she further stated.

The Interns will be placed in the following companies within the Musson Group: General Accident Insurance Company Limited, Facey Commodity Limited, Productive Business Solutions Limited, and T. Geddes Grant Limited.

The programme which will be open to both undergraduate and graduate students will be in two tranches and will facilitate a total of ten (10) interns over a twelve week period.  Participants will be assigned a specific project which will help to develop their problem solving skills and also provide them with exposure to the Group’s senior executives.

The interns will be provided with work experience in the areas of Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Operations, Management, Internal Audit, Data Entry/Customer Service and Merchandising.   They will be paid a basic salary, and assessed at the end of the period, with the possibility of gaining full time employment within the organization, based on their performance.

Professor Paul Simmonds, Executive Director of MSBM in expressing his gratitude to the Musson Group said. “As a Business School, the engagement with the business community through partnerships such as these is part of our strategic thrust.” “In addition, we are always particularly pleased about any opportunity to provide our students with the facility to hone their skills as they prepare to enter the world of work or advance their careers.  We are therefore extremely grateful to the Musson Group for this offer and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”

The collaboration with the Musson Group represents a significant milestone in MSBM’s history in terms of the number of participants and the range of industries included in an Internship programme with a single entity.    The first tranche of the programme will begin in March 2013.
