Members of the public are being invited to attend a two-day National Conference on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics to take place next week Monday and Tuesday, September 30 – October 1, 2013.
 
The event will be hosted by the Mona ICT Policy Centre in partnership with the global Internet Society (ISOC), based in Washington, DC. Also associated with the event is the law firm Henlin Gibson Henlin and CARIMAC. It will take place at the Regional Headquarters of the University of the West Indies at Mona in Kingston under the theme “Protecting Identity, Banking and Citizen Information Networks”.
 
The conference will gather key members of the legal, IT, banking, security and academic communities, alongside government policy makers to create an action plan to strengthen cyber security in Jamaica. The intention is to form a coalition of interests to offer cohesive responses to the upsurge in computer-based crimes locally and globally. This includes measures against the infamous lottery scam, other threats to businesses, government, individuals and the reputation of Jamaica.
 
Lead presenters include the Senior Development Manager for the Internet Society's Regional LAC Bureau, Mr. Christian O'Flaherty; Minister of National Security, Hon. Peter Bunting; Minister of State for the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Hon. Julian Robinson; Group Managing Director, National Commercial Bank, Mr. Patrick Hylton; Deputy Commissioner of Police Carl Williams; and CEO of the Caribbean Cyber Security Centre, Mr. James Bynoe. The Conference Chair is Professor Hopeton Dunn, Director of the Mona ICT Policy Centre, UWI.

The conference which will open on Monday is free and open to the public. However interested persons are asked to register online at cybersecurity2013.msbm-uwi.org.
 
A strong audience presence is expected to hear 22 speakers in six sessions over the two days.
