Former Prime Minister PJ Patterson to address UWI Development and Endowment Fund luncheon

The UWI Development and Endowment Fund will host its third annual Donor Recognition and Scholarship Awards function. The event will be held on Thursday October 10 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel commencing at 12:00 noon with feature address by Former Prime Minister the Most Honourable PJ Patterson.

The luncheon is one of the major activities hosted annually by the Fund to provide scholarships and bursaries to students in need at the UWI Mona Campus. Started initially as a banquet to honour donors who have supported the UWIDEF over the years, support for the event has made it possible to make a significant contribution to the pool of funds available for scholarships and bursaries. Over the years, a number of students have benefited from the support of the fund as they pursued their dreams of attaining academic qualifications in a number of disciplines.

Mr Patterson, an alumnus of the Mona Campus, will address the audience about the importance of giving back. His presentation will speak to the generation that went before and the responsibility of that generation for ensuring the future generation benefits from the education in the same way they did.

Among highlights of the luncheon will be the announcement of new scholarships from telecommunications firm LIME and also scholarships and bursaries named for media companies. Student recipients of scholarships and bursaries will be awarded at the event.

Tickets for the event are still available at the UWIDEF office and can be delivered on request. Call 977-6757 or email uwifund@uwimona.edu.jm.
