Five Bursaries to be provided for students with disabilities

Effective September 2014, The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona will be providing five bursaries valued at J$50,000 each, for students with disabilities.

This was announced by Mona Principal, Professor Archibald McDonald, at the opening ceremony of the inaugural Regional Disability Studies Conference hosted by the Centre for Disability Studies, Mona.

The scholarships will be handled through the Centre, and will be granted to five students with disabilities who have maintained a ‘B’ average in their studies. Professor McDonald said that the bursary was yet another major University initiative geared at providing friendly and accommodating educational services to all students with disabilities.

He added that the ultimate goal was to continue to provide the training and a strong educational framework that would allow graduates with disabilities to enter the working world as skilled, competent trailblazers who will make continuous contributions to the welfare of the community.
