International Colloquium on Pan Africanism starts April 23

The Ninth CBAAC International Colloquium, under the theme: “Toward a New Pan-Africanism - Deploying Anthropology, Archeology, History and Philosophy in the Service of Africa and the Diaspora”, is being organized by the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), Lagos, Nigeria, in conjunction with Pan-African Strategic and Policy Research Group (PANAFSTRAG), the University of the West Indies’ Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, the Nigerian High Commission, the South African High Commission and the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica/ Jamaica Memory Bank (ACIJ/JMB).
 
The colloquium will be held at the Mona Visitor’s Lodge, UWI, Mona Campus, from April 23 – 26, 2014, under the theme, Toward a New Pan-Africanism - Deploying Anthropology, Archeology, History and Philosophy in the Service of Africa and the Diaspora. The grand opening ceremony is 6 p.m. on April 23, 2014.  The event will bring together the top Pan-Africanists, historians, academics, public intellectuals, researchers, archaeologists, anthropologists, philosophers, Nollywood actors, parliamentarians, activists and other experts from Africa and the Diaspora. The public is invited to attend, free of cost and to share in the interaction, discussions and networking opportunities this event provides.
 
The Opening ceremony will feature cultural performances from West Africa, South Africa and Jamaica.  Attending the Colloquium will be Ministers of Governments of African countries, Ambassadors of African countries in the Americas, and leaders of opinion from global Africa.  It is anticipated that the Prime Minister of Jamaica will declare the Colloquium open on April 23, 2014.
