UWI Mona student Hansle Parchment wins 110M hurdles at Diamond League

Jamaican Olympian Bronze Medalist and UWI, Mona athlete, Hansle Parchment has set a new Jamaican national record and world-leading time after running 12.94 seconds to win the men’s 110m hurdles event during the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Diamond League competition at Stade de France in Saint-Denis on July 5.

Parchment beat his own previous personal best of 13.05 seconds set at Eugene, Oregon last year.

To win, Parchment defeated the most consistent sprint hurdler this season - France’s Pascal Martinot-Lagarde who ran 13.05 seconds and Cuba’s Orlando Ortega - at a season’s best of 13.10 seconds.

The UWI, Mona final year Psychology student, has broken the national record for the fourth time and has made history when he became the 16th hurdler to run faster than 13 seconds for the event.

He will be participating in the 2014 Commonwealth Games beginning July 14.
