RESEARCH INTERNSHIP (EXTENDED May 2, 2014)

OBJECTIVES:

  • To help participants develop proposals/programs of research or scientific manuscripts with support from mentors during work in progress sessions
  • Enable participants to acquire knowledge and skills in health systems research and linking research to policy
  • Develop skills in multiple intervention programs design and evaluation in health systems.
  • Enable participants to gain knowledge and skills essential for competitive grantsmanship.
  • Extend participants’repertoire of cutting edge research designs and approaches in health systems
  • Provide opportunities to enhance peer review skills
  • Build research networks and extend links with local, national, and international decision-makers.

Continuing Education Credits

  • Participants in the internship will receive Continuing Education (CE) hours

Eligibility

  • Graduate -prepared (must have completed a graduate degree at least one month prior to the start date of the internship) in nursing, medicine, public health, epidemiology or other health sciences-related disciplines.
  • Committed to long-term research engagement and providing tangible benefits to home community or institution
  • Interest in international research collaboration

Registration Fees:

The internship offers the following options:

  1. Full Package: includes lunch and refreshments (on weekdays), programme materials, airport shuttle, transport for site visits, accommodation on University Halls of residence includes kitchen facilities, University library and internet access and welcome dinner.
  2. Half Package: includes lunch and refreshments (on weekdays), programme materials, transport for site visits, University library and internet access and welcome dinner.

Caribbean Region Participants

  • Full Package: US$2500
  • Half Package:US$1500

International Participants

  • Full Package: US$3000

PLEASE NOTE:

  • All participants are responsible for their own travel and visa arrangements to /from Kingston Jamaica and associated costs.
  • Breakfast and Dinner on weekdays are not included in the program fee
  • Weekend catering (all meals) are not included in the program fee.
  • The UWI School of Nursing, Mona will host the Annual Nursing and Midwifery Research Conference on Thursday, May 29, 2014 - Friday, May 30, 2014. While attendance at the conference is optional, interns are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation. Conference registration is not included in the internship package.
