Eligibility

The award is available to Caricom Nationals, who have completed their first or second year of study and are:

  • registered in the Faculty of Social Sciences and pursuing a major in Economics.

N.B. Relatives of the Luna Brown Street Foundation (LBSF) Board of Directors, Advisory Board and the LBSF volunteers are ineligible for the award.

Criteria

The award will be based on:

  • academic achievement (at least a GPA of 3.0);
  • verifiable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular activities;
  • demonstrative leadership qualities;
  • satisfactory response to a prescribed essay.
Method of Selection

The successful candidate(s) will be selected by a panel comprised of representatives of The Luna Brown Street Foundation, SALISES and The UWI.

Condition

The successful candidate will be required to serve as a mentor for a minimum of one (1) year, to the student selected in the year following receipt of the award.

Kindly note the following:

  • In addition to the University Examination, performance in the University Scholarship Examination or the Advanced Level Examination may also be considered in evaluating the candidates' academic achievement.
  • Preference will be given to recent high school graduates (five (5) years or less).
  • Short-listed candidates will be required to write a short essay on a topic chosen by the selection panel.
