This Lecture was held in conjunction with the Marine Geology Unit of the Department of Geography and Geology.
Dr. Simpson is a senior Research Associate at the Oxford University Centre for the Environment at the University of Oxford in England. He is also the CEO and Co-Director of the CARIB-SAVE Partnership.
Dr. Murray Simpson discussing global sea level rise projections and their impact on the Caribbean on February 1, 2011.
He spoke about the ways in which the sea rising would affect the Caribbean nations and what we could do about it, both for when it does happen and how to reduce its repercussions by minimizing it now.
The audience at Dr. Simpson's lecture was very interested in what he had to say about Sea-Level Rise
Dr. Simpson insists that the sea level of the Caribbean Sea will rise, and it is only a matter of time before it does happen. He kept his audience captive with his calculations of how much we will be affected by the water's rise; some nations will lose half their airports under a 1 meter rise in the sea's level. Others will be so affected they will lose most of their farming land and others will lose many of their ports.
