The Department collaborated with the Astronomical Association of Jamaica (AAJ) and the United States Embassy to present a documentary film entitled 50 years of Exploration - the Golden Anniversary of NASA. The event also commemorated the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. Students from the advanced level Astronomy and Cosmology class were also guests at the September meeting of the AAJ.

The UWI, Mona ranks first in Jamaica among accredited tertiary-level programmes. In 2012, the University was again one of Jamaica’s Top 100 Employers.
