In-situ Applications of the X-ray and Gamma-ray Spectroscopy Techniques

  The Department of Physics, UWI Mona in collaboration with the Department of History, UWI Mona, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Thermo Fisher Scientific will be hosting a workshop on August 22, 2011 to introduce the principles and applications of X-ray fluorescence and gamma spectroscopy techniques.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

1.    Principles of X-ray Fluorescence analysis and Gamma spectroscopy.

2.    Applications of these methods in:

a.    Analysis of cultural heritage artifacts and artworks

b.    Environmental and health studies

c.    Medical diagnostics

d.    Forensics

e.    Industrial processes

The focus will be on non-destructive in-situ ('in position') applications using portable instruments. The round table session will give the opportunity to discuss your specific application problems with local and international experts in this field
