Supporting Development of Jamaica’s Sports Industry

Prof. Gordon Shirley

I am very pleased that we at Mona have organized ourselves to take full advantage of these doors that have been opened, to harness the economic potential of this fledgling sports industry.  What the Campus has done is to build on our existing assets – our facilities, our people, our research and our traditional courses of study – augmenting them with a range of new elements to create programmes that respond directly to the emerging challenges and opportunities.

Greetings – Chancellor Hall Super Lions Banquet, March 20, 2009

Prof. Gordon Shirley

This Super Lions Awards function is one of the sacred traditions of Chancellor Hall’s alumni.  I commend it as a model for other halls that could well benefit from an initiative such as this, where distinguished alumni of the Hall, role models in our Region, assume the noble responsibility of mentoring current Chancellorites.  The importance of the role that the Super Lions play is evidenced in the overwhelming support of this function by the students.

Appreciation Function for the Donors and Sponsors of the UWI Mona Lions Club Centre for Students with Special Needs

Prof. Gordon Shirley

This occasion is a significant one.   It recognises the foresight of the Lions Club of Mona in conceiving of the requirement for a collaborative effort to address the needs of the Campus’s students who are physically challenged.
