UWI/GOJ Launch Pilot Public Sector Management Internship Programme

The University of the West Indies, Mona through the Department of Government and the Government of Jamaica launched the Public Sector Management (PSM) Internship Pilot Programme on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Jamaica House. Speaking at the launch, Cabinet Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Douglas Saunders noted that the internship programme would help to build maanagement capabilities and improve the job readiness skills of Public Sector Management entrants. Benefit performance -For July-at-the-UWI Scholarships

The International Programmes in the Vice Chancellery, UWI invites members of the UWI, Mona community, family and friends to a Special Benefit Performance of The University Singers on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 8 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, Mona.  The proceeds are in aid of scholarships for children of Support Staff, to enable participation in the July-at-the-UWI 2009 Programme.  Tickets are available at the PSCCA.

Professor Walter Lonner, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Western Washington University will deliver the lecture on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 7:30 pm at the Sociology Conference Room located at the Sir Alister McIntyre Building, UWI, Mona.

UWI/FirstCaribbean Case Analysis Competition Hosted by Defending Champions, UWI, Mona

The Faculty of Social Sciences, UWI, Mona in association with the FirstCaribbean International Bank will host the 2009 UWI/FirstCaribbean Case Analysis Competition on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in Seminar Room (SR) 16, UWI, Mona.

Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice, and Policy’

A Regional Conference on the Environment is being organised as part of the Environmental Management programme at the UWI, Mona Campus. The Conference is scheduled to take place on the Mona Campus, July 7-8, 2009, under the theme ‘Caribbean Environments: Perspectives, Practice, and Policy’.

The Conference seeks to offer a forum in which perspectives and issues surrounding environmental research, practice, and the formulation and implementation of policy can be shared and discussed.

UWI Participates in Green Expo ’09

The University of the West Indies, Mona will be among the over 100 exhibitors showcasing the environmental work of the institution at the Green Expo to be held on June 5-7, 2009 at the National Arena, 10 am to 10 pm daily.  In keeping with the theme for the Green Expo, “Climate Change and Alternative Energy”, the theme of the University of the West Indies, Mona display will be “Climate Change on Land, Sea and Air”.

SEPHIS’s Visit

The international group, South-South Exchange Programme for Research on the History of Development (SEPHIS) will visit UWI, Mona from June 5-9, 2009 for a Steering Committee meeting. While at the University the contingent will meet with graduate students and select UWI, Mona administrators.

Child Rights Workshop Hosted by UWI and UNICEF

The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), UWI, Mona and UNICEF host the first workshop for primary school teachers on Child Rights on June 2, 2009 at 9 am at SALISES. The workshop is designed to sensitize the teachers on child rights, the situation of children, locally and internationally, the roles of the Child Development Agency, the Office of the Children's Advocate and the Children's Registry.
