Cross Campus Collaboration: Success Stories

PSYCHOLOGY CROSS CAMPUS SUPERVISION AND COURSE REVIEWS

Cooperation with respect to the psychology discipline on the various campuses has included cross campus supervision as well as the review of courses/ programmes and the teaching of students by colleagues from other campuses. This has been achieved primarily through the use of a range of ICT enabled forms of communications. These have included email, telephone, instant messaging (via Blackberry), and computer based conferencing (via Skype). To a lesser extent there have also been movement of students and staff between campuses. Cross campus cooperation has been ongoing but has strengthened over time particularly since the 2010 Conference.

  1. Kia Morgan (Mona) teaches in the graduate psychology programme at Cave Hill. Methodologically, in addition to email communications this engagement has Dr Morgan periodically travelling to Cave Hill.
  2. Graduate students from the Cave Hill Counseling Psychology programme have done their summer graduate practicum placement in the Department of Psychiatry at Mona (supervision by Kia Morgan). Methodologically, this development emerged by way of the cross campus correspondence between the relevant faculty members including from Cave Hill: Jacqueline Conley, Cheryl McClean-Cadogon and Diane Holder, Counseling Psychology, Applied Psychology and Practicum coordinators respectively.
  3. One Clinical Psychology graduate student transferred from Mona to St Augustine but continues to be supervised by Ishtar Govia (Mona). Methodologically this was accomplished instant "Blackberry" messaging as well as "Skype meetings" between the student and Dr Govia.
  4. Dennis Edwards (Mona) acts as a supervisor for a recent MSc clinical psychology graduate who works as a clinical psychologist for a very significant arm of the Barbados' national security system. Methodologically this has been achieved by way email and telephone communication. This has facilitated the treating with very significant incidents.
  5. Dennis Edwards (Mona) served as reviewer for a Cognitive Psychology course being offered at Cave Hill. Methodologically this was achieved primarily by way of email communication.
  6. Stacey Brodie-Walker (Mona) assisted in revising the course in Counseling Psychology for Cave Hill. Methodologically this engagement was accomplished by way of email and regular telephone conversations with Jacqueline Conley of Cave Hill.
  7. Gillian Mason (Mona) has commented on the St Augustine Applied Psychology graduate programme. Methodologically this was achieved by way of email communication with Derrick Chadee (St Augustine) along with Marina Ramkissoon (Mona).

All of the above can be claimed as a success case by the three campuses and, as such, augers well for the concept of cross campus integration, even as "absolute sameness" is guarded against!
