What is Academic Forgiveness?

Academic Forgiveness is normally applied to students who either withdraw voluntarily or because the University required them to withdraw.

Essentially, a student who has been required to withdraw (RTW) from the University has three (3) options.

  • Option 1:  To remain out of the UWI system for a minimum of one year following which you may apply for readmission. If you choose Option 1, you will be eligible for academic forgiveness.  Students who have been granted academic forgiveness are readmitted with a clean slate.  The Dean of the Faculty will determine which courses, if any, may be used as transfer credits.  The maximum number of transfer credits is 30 credits which would normally be Level 1.  The Dean through the Board of Undergraduate Studies, however, shall determine which Level 2 or Level 3 courses may be considered for exemption with credit.
  • Option 2:  To be granted a waiver of the requirement to withdraw and continue in the said Faculty without sitting out a year.  If you choose Option 2, you will not be eligible for academic forgiveness.  You will be considered acontinuing student and as such, will continue with your full record.
  • Option 3:  To be transferred from one faculty to another without sitting out a year.  If you choose Option 3, you will not be eligible for academic forgiveness.  Like Option 2, you will be considered acontinuing student and as such, will continue with your full record.

Please note that application for transfer, re-admission or waiver will be considered on its own merit and will only succeed if the Faculty is satisfied that the circumstances attending the reasons for the RTW have been altered substantially.
