The Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of the West Indies (UWI) in Jamaica, in partnership with the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking three-day publishing and training workshop tailored to empower early career researchers and postgraduates in the social sciences and humanities.

This immersive three-day workshop, set in a face-to-face format, features engaging morning and afternoon sessions led by distinguished lecturers and esteemed journal editors from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, and the School of Advanced Study at the University of London.

 

 

Early or mid-career researchers based in the Caribbean, employing qualitative approaches within the humanities or social sciences, are encouraged to seize this opportunity. Eligible disciplines encompass anthropology, sociology, geography, history, politics, cultural studies, literature and visual arts, languages, socio-linguistics, post/de-colonial theory, and related fields. Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree and be actively involved in research.

 

 

This call for participation is part of a collective endeavor uniting universities across Latin American and Caribbean countries with the School of Advanced Study, University of London. Together, we strive to amplify the dissemination of regional research on an international stage, while addressing the structural barriers that may impede publication in esteemed international journals.

 

 

The workshop is made possible through the generous support of the British Academy’s International Writing Workshops 2022 program, backed by the UK Government’s Global Challenges Research Fund. Participants can look forward to a cost-free workshop experience, inclusive of meals and refreshments. Please note that travel, accommodation, and childcare or care for dependents are not covered. Limited partial grants are available to alleviate these expenses.

- A summary or excerpt of a draft article (maximum 2,000 words) accompanied by a 200-word abstract and a title.

- A two-page CV.
