Analysis of Axillary Lymph Nodes in Breast Cancer Patients with Positive Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy

Synopsis:

This study has shown the analysis and characteristics of axillary lymph nodes after axillary dissection. The likelihood of non-sentinel nodes (non-SLN) metastases is shown to be dependent on penetration of the sentinel’s capsule by malignant cells, tumour grade, stage, and molecular subtype.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the prevalence of positive non-sentinel nodes (non-SLN) after axillary dissection for positive sentinel lymph node (SLN) and the relationship between occurrence of positive non-SLNs and penetration of the sentinel's capsule by malignant cells, as well as grade and molecular subtype of the breast cancer.

Fine-needle-aspiration (FNA) Cytology for SRC Type Breast Cancer: 13 Case Reports

Synopsis:

This study estimated the nature of SRCs in different histological subtype of breast cancer in department of Ultrasound Diagnosis, the affiliated hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao, China. It was indicated that its presence may not indicate poor prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the cytohistological findings of 13 breast carcinoma cases with SRCs

Methods: From January 2006 to August 2015, 13 cases of SRC type breast cancer had undergone FNA cytology examination before excisional biopsy or operation. All the histological sections of each case were confirmed to have at least 20% SRCs in the tumor cells. The clinicopathological features of SRC type breast cancer were investigated.

Synopsis:

The age at diagnosis of breast cancer in women of Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas, significantly influenced the survival rates, with younger women living longer. Staging and axillary lymph node status influenced survival to a lesser extent. The influence of treatment modalities on survival was not demonstrated, and this might have been due to the small sample size.

The role of epigenetic changes with special focus on histone modifying enzymes in breast cancer is explored. Blending both epigenetic anomalies and genome instability is suggested as useful tool for breast cancer diagnosis. A basic understanding of HAT and HDACs families is required in designing potential cancer therapeutics.

Status of Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Levels in Smokers with Breast Cancer from Western Nepal

Synopsis:

The blood glucose lowering potential of aqueous fruit extracts of the Jamaican plant species (Momordica charantia) was investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats. The extract showed no hypoglycaemic or antidiabetic activity. However, there was improvement in glucose tolerance of glucose-primed normoglycaemic rats during oral glucose tolerance test.

Objectives: Research indicates that oxidative stress induced by smoking plays a crucial role in breast cancer. In view of these reports, we aimed to study this relationship between smoking and oxidative stress in breast cancer patients from western region of Nepal.

The crude hexane and methanol extracts of V divaricata exhibited anti-proliferation activity and as such, it is a potential drug for cancer chemotherapy and prevention.

Background: Vernonia divaricata is one of five endemic Vernonia species of Jamaica. The ethno-medicinal uses of other species have been established, however, scientific validation of this species has not yet been done and as such this paper is aimed at identifying the anti-cancer activity of V divaricata against leukaemia, breast and prostate cancer cell lines.
