Clustering of Ultrasound Cervix Image Using Objective Function

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2016.118
Synopsis:
Clustering technique that has been effectively applied to feature investigation, classifier designs in field such as medical imaging and image segmentation. This clustering is achieved by iteratively reducing a cost functionality. It is based on minimization of the objective function.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate a clustering method that gets the similarity between the classes, where the comparison measure controls how the clusters are formed.

Ultrasound-guided Subacromial-Subdeltoid Bursa Steroid Injections: Retrospective Comparison of Two Approaches and the Assessment of Impingement Tests to Predict Efficacy

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.124
Synopsis:
This study was a retrospective chart review to compare the efficacy of two approaches to ultrasound-guided subacromial-subdeltoid bursa injections and to assess whether shoulder impingement tests act as a predictive factor for efficacy of the injection.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Compare the efficacy of two approaches to ultrasound-guided subacromial-subdeltoid bursa injections and to assess whether shoulder impingement tests acts as a predictive factor for efficacy of the injection.

Achilles Tendon Measurements in Asymptomatic Saudi Adults Using High-frequency Ultrasound

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.251
Pages:
201-6
Synopsis:
The authors’ aim in this prospective study was to evaluate the thickness, cross-sectional area and the length of the Achilles tendons using ultrasound (US) in asymptomatic adult Saudi participants and to investigate the possible changes in these measurements based on their ages and body heights.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To measure the Achilles tendon length, thickness and cross-sectional area in asymptomatic adult Saudi participants and to investigate the possible changes in these measurements based on their different ages and body height.

Hematoma and Ulnar Nerve Injury: Lookıng at Your Patıent Only or Tryıng to See wıth Ultrasound as Well

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.263

The Editor,

 Sir,

A 75-year-old man was seen due to pain and numbness on the medial side of his left forearm (worse at night) for the last one month. He described that his complaints started after he had been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and put on warfarin (5 mg/day) and low molecular weight heparin (1.2 g/day) therapy. In the meantime, venography had shown subclavian vein thrombophlebitis.

Ultrasonographic Measurement of the Achilles and Supraspinatus Tendon Thicknesses in Patients with Chronic Lead Exposure

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.086
Pages:
384–7
Synopsis:
Preliminary results imply that subjects with occupational lead exposure have smaller Achilles tendons than healthy subjects. Chronic lead exposure may affect the tendons due to reduction of collagen synthesis.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The study aimed to assess tendon thickness in patients with chronic occupational lead exposure by using ultrasonography.

Ultrasonographic Measurement of the Femoral Cartilage Thickness in Patients with Behçet’s Disease

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2013.337
Pages:
728–31
Synopsis:
In this study, the femoral cartilage thickness of patients with Behçet’s disease (BD) was evaluated and it was found that the cartilage was thinner in patients with BD and that arthritis seems to be associated with this decrease.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate femoral cartilage thickness in patients with Behçet’s disease (BD) by using ultrasonography.

Correlation of Left Ventricular Diastolic Function and Left Ventricular Geometry in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.054
Pages:
92–8
Synopsis:
Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome is an independent risk factor of morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular diseases. In this study, there was significant correlation between the left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and changes in cardiac geometry in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation of the left ventricular diastolic function and the left ventricular geometry in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) by echocardiography.
