FYE Co-ordinator

I am very pleased to welcome you to the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies. You have embarked on a very important mission of self-recognition at this the region’s premier institution.

This mission demands your unswerving dedication, commitment and perseverance in your quest for excellence and self actualization. This region is depending on you to be the catalyst behind its development. You are the future, and should equip yourselves to lead the process of renewal and advancement of this region. I encourage you also to engage in positive interactions with your peers and members of the wider community as a method of engendering social participation.

It is of utmost importance that as you strive for academic excellence you will also seize the opportunity to participate in the programmes and activities organized for your development. Opportunities abound in sports, music, art, dance, theatre, student government, religious activities as well as in other structured programmes for your qualitative development. One such programme is the First Year Experience Programme for commuting students.

I urge all first year commuters to become a part of this programme. It was designed specifically for you, to assist with your transition and successful sojourn through the University and throughout life. I assure you the experience will be totally transformational and lots of fun. You should also take the time to visit the Commuting Students’ Lounge as well as the Hall of Residence to which you are attached.

I wish for you a most fulfilling and successful UWI experience.
