We recently caught up with Miss Althea Brown, a recent graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology. Here's what she had to say about the programme and how it has enhanced her career goals.
The UWI, Mona History programme is a very diverse and well-rounded one; from the history of film, creation of musical genres to the history of banking and finance. As aspiring historians, we were introduced to history not just as the study of past events, but also as a tool to be used to understand the impact societal development has on financial and non-financial events occurring within our time. My current career in publishing as an Assistant Acquisitions Editor to the UWI Press has been facilitated by my degree in History and the skills (listed above) I have acquired within the programme has made it possible for me to carry-out my core duties. Whether my path continues within publishing or I venture into another field within academia or the corporate world I am confident that the foundation laid by my History programme will assist beyond positions actively and directly related to the discipline.
