MPhil in History

Entry Requirements

An Upper Second or First Class degree is required, with at least eight B+s in History and Archaeology courses.

Duration

Full-time students are allowed to complete the MPhil Programme in two years.

Programme

MPhil students will be required to read three courses after before completing the major component of the MPhil, which is the writing of an extensive research thesis (not exceeding 50,000 words) under supervision. Topics may be chosen from the research areas listed or agreed on by the Department. The MPhil thesis must be a new and substantial contribution to the current historiography that is worthy of publication and shows clear evidence of original research. Seminars Staff/Graduate Seminars are held weekly and MPhil students are required to attend a minimum of 75% of the seminars held each semester. MPhil students are also required to present and satisfactorily complete at least two (2) research seminars.
