I am Sheryl Andrea Reid, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of History in the Department of Humanities at Northern Caribbean University, Mandeville. I have been an educator for over two decades. I hold a B.A. in History and Social Sciences from UWI, Mona since 1987 and was the recipient of 1987 Departmental Prize for Excellence in History; an award given to the student who attained the highest scores in History in any given year. 

I also hold a Diploma in Education from the Mico University College and a MPhil in History from UWI, Mona since 2000. My unpublished MPhil thesis, focuses on “US-Jamaica Farm Work Programme, 1943-1962” dated 1998,  has been cited among the references of the 2011 publication of William and Mary College, Professor  Cindy Hahamovitch entitled, ‘No Man’s Land: Jamaican Guest workers in America and the Global History of Deportable Labor.’ The thesis is presently being expanded and converted for future publication. I am currently pursuing a PhD in History researching essentially on impact of the Jamaica-UK repatriation on the Jamaican community of Mandeville.

I have been a member and have served in a number of professional and community organizations, over the years. Of special note are the Archaeological Society of Jamaica, the Georgian Society of Jamaica, the Historical Society of Jamaica, the Association of Caribbean Historians and Optimist International.

History is an important discipline to study as it helps the historian to unearth the past, unravel the present and forecast the future. Students of History have been exposed systematically to in-depth research content and methodologies as well as critical thinking.
