Professor Archibald McDonald is Principal-designate, UWI, Mona

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is pleased to announce that Professor Archibald McDonald has been selected to succeed Professor Gordon Shirley as Principal of the UWI, Mona Campus.  Professor McDonald is the current Deputy Principal of Mona, a post he has held for the past year.
 
 

Dr. Aubrey McFarlane Memorial Bursary Awarded to Terri-Anne Russell

The recipient of the Dr. Aubrey McFarlane Memorial Bursary is Terri-Anne Russell. The award is based on the results of the 2013 Final MB BS (UWI) Examinations.
 
This award is made to the student who gains the top mark in the Final Examinations in Surgery at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
 
The award commemorates Dr. Aubrey McFarlane, a noted surgeon and physician par excellence who was Chief Medical Officer in the government service.
 

Levi Roots Hails OFCIE Winners, New Generation of Jamaican Food Entrepreneurs

Jamaican born condiment mogul, Keith “Levi Roots” Graham hailed the international success of a team from The University of the West Indies, Mona (UWI) whose use of locally grown fruits and vegetables won them the first place award in the Opportunity Funding Corporation Innovation & Entrepreneurship (OFCIE) competition recently held in Atlanta Georgia.
 
 

MSBM/RADA MOU Gives Rural Farmers ICT Boost

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed formalizing the continuing Open Data in Agriculture initiative between the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) and the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM). The MOU explores Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled innovations to support the enhanced delivery of Agricultural Extension services to farmers across Jamaica.
 
 

Diaspora Millionaire Contributes to Jamaican Business Education

Students, notable academics, and members of the public and private sector were on hand at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Law building on Monday June 24, to attend the inaugural UWI/George Willie Lecture which featured world renowned Harvard Law Professor and mentor to President Obama, Professor Charles Ogletree.
 
 

Dr. Eris D Schoburg re-elected to Commonwealth Local Government Forum

UWI Mona Lecturer in the Department of Government, Dr. Eris D. Schoburgh has been re-elected to the Board of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) as a Member of the Research Advisory Group (RAG).
 
Re-election was made at the CLGF 7th Biannual Conference held in Kampala, Uganda, May 14-17, 2013.
 
Dr. Schoburgh will serve for the period 2013-15 and is expected to advance the concept and practice of developmental local government in the Caribbean through her research, teaching and public service activities.
 

Charles Ogletree, Mentor to Barack Obama to present at the inaugural UWI/George Willie Lecture Series

The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona joins patron George Willie in presenting the inaugural UWI/George Willie Lecture series. The inaugural lecture in the newly established series will take place on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Lecture Room 2 in the Faculty of Law, Mona beginning at 6.00 p.m.
 

International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS) rated among top laboratories in the world

The International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS) located at The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona, has been rated among the top laboratories in the world for the quality of its chemical analysis work.  (Reactor shown in photo at full power)
 
ICENS has been conducting chemical analysis for minerals, food, environmental and construction industries as well as public sector agriculture and water agencies for 29 years.
 

Caribbean branch of Cochrane Centre launched in Jamaica

Jamaican based Regional Head office set to lead thrust For the use of evidence-based healthcare solutions for patients
 
The United States Cochrane Centre officially opened its only Caribbean office June 5, on the premises of the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. 
 
The launch signaled the start of a vibrant partnership between the Cochrane Centre, the University of the West Indies and local health authorities including the Ministry of Health to realize evidence based health care solutions for patients in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean region.
 

US Ambassador calls for equal respect and justice for women

United States Ambassador, Her Excellency Pamela Bridgewater has underscored the need for workplace transformation and self transformation in order to break away from practices that prevent women from ascending to the highest positions on the corporate ladder.
 
Ambassador Bridgewater was the keynote speaker at a public lecture entitled: ‘Women's Leadership: Transforming Self, Community and Country’. The public lecture was jointly staged last week by the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), the Mona unit of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) and the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) at the new Faculty of Law building, University of the West Indies, Mona campus.
