The prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including diabetes and hypertension in the older Jamaican population has significantly increased over the last 20 years. Immediate, short-term activities that target the individual are necessary if NCDs are to be prevented and/or be properly controlled.

This paper describes the development and psychometric analysis of a culture-specific measure of maternal sexual role modelling that was developed by the authors for use with urban Jamaican female adolescents. Further research is needed to assess the reliability and validity of the instrument with other populations.
